I love the way the Butler basketball program is run and how Brad Stevens conducts himself. The program plays in Hinkle Fieldhouse, a US National Historic Landmark, that was built in 1928 and served as the film site for the final game in “Hoosiers.” The fieldhouse, in my mind, symbolizes the program. They are old school.
This is the first installment of “Videos for Hoopheads,” my weekly post that will release every Monday containing five videos I recommend serious basketball fans watch, plus a brief synopsis. Let’s wait no longer.
For basketball fans supreme: Have any of you heard of Findlay Prep? Oak Hill Academy? Most have probably heard of Oak Hill, but only those that seriously keep up with all levels of basketball know about Findlay. I’m a hoophead, so that’s what I like to do, think about, watch, and research. As many know, Oak Hill is a basketball powerhouse and factory, based out of rural Virginia, that brings in top players from around the country to develop within their system, play a national schedule, and dominate the high school ranks. An auto dealer with the last name Findlay decided he wanted to bring a similar program to his hometown of Las Vegas. He funded and Nike sponsored a program called Findlay Prep which is actually not a school, but a basketball program that has been cleared to play by national authorities and alligned themselves with the Henderson International School. I’ve been following this web-series for a couple years now and it’s been very interesting to see the work that goes into building and maintaining a national powerhouse made up of a collection of teenagers. My man Donnie Seals does a phenomenal job behind the camera and in the editing room. Check it out, and I’ll more than likely be posting his future videos in the future. I think the situation at SMU is extremely interesting. It’s either going to end with them climbing the ranks of college basketball, upgrading their facilities, and becoming a player in the Big East, or it’s going to backfire and send them spiraling below mediocrity. Regardless, it will be interesting to follow, as they’ve already throw ridiculous amounts of money at their coaching staff.

Bill Simmons is phenomenal. There’s no denying it. That’s why this is interesting to read. Everybody knows who’s involved in the MVP race and who’s seriously involved, but he says some interesting things and points out interesting stats. Very good read, and I’m a huge K-Love fan, so what he had to say about him is an argument I’ve had with countless people.
HOOPHEADS MUST WATCH! Vanessa Williams sings “Oh How The Years Go By” while a history of the NBA graces the screen. Gives me goosebumps. If it doesn’t do the same for you, you’re not a basketball fan.

Real interesting read. I feel like the Thunder are one of the teams in the NBA that people love to talk about the most because Durant is fun to be a fan of, the team is so young, and they genuinely seem to enjoy playing together. The perspective is understandable and probably true, but it’s crazy to think that dealing a hooper like Harden is actually in the best interest of an NBA team. Boobie recommends the article.
Maybe the best game I’ve ever watched from start to finish. 2009 Big East Tournament: Syracuse vs. UConn. 6OT. Johnny Flynn played 67 minutes. That’s absurd. The length of the SportsCenter highlight in itself is impressive. I’m a huge Devendorf fan, so I would’ve been perfectly satisfied with his original game-winner counting. It would’ve allowed me to end my night watching him stand on press row, cursing at the MSG crowd. Enjoy!
